How quickly time passes.
Children grow by leaps and bounds in one short year.
The neighbor child that was born the year I moved here is now 16.
Some people have planned to accomplish certain tasks within the this new year only to realize in December that they never did get to those tasks.
Are you are like me? I think of the things I wish to accomplish but I'm a busy woman with something else needing to be done at the time and well, the time or day to never seems to get here.
Tomorrow always turns out to be a today that's full of things that just can't seem to wait. Or I just didn't have the desire to tackle the task that day. The next thing I know, the year's ended and the task goes on the next years list with at least one more added.
A phrase I've heard in the past is, "I'm so far behind, I'll never get caught up."
Do you remember the commercial a few years ago where a man was in such a rut that it showed him going to work and coming from work until one day on his way out the door, he ran into himself coming in.
Do you ever feel like that?
Perhaps that's what the scriptures are referring to when they say that to every thing there is a season, a time.
We make plans and sometimes they are realized. Other times we plan so carefully only to see everything fall apart. That doesn't mean we should not make plans, or dream dreams. It just means that we need to pray more consistently for direction in our planning and our dreaming.
When our agenda is in alignment with our Heavenly Father's agenda all things come together smoothly.
Unfortunately we aren't always willing to surrender our own personal agenda, therefore, we struggle and strive to try to bring our goals into being.
And sometimes, we do realize that dream or goal under our own steam, usually to find that attaining it doesn't bring us the pleasure, freedom or the peace that we were certain it would.
In this new year, pray through your plans and dreams being willing to follow God's leading and not expecting Him to follow yours.
There is much more peace and joy to be found in His agenda. He alone knows the end from the beginning. That doesn't mean the path will be as smooth as glass or that there won't be unpleasant circumstances during the course of your journey.
But, it does mean that God is able to bring about what he starts and that knowledge allows us to stand in the peace and in the joy that he is in charge and not us!
